QUICK HITS
- Russia carries a 5-4 series lead in points into Game 4 tonight following a 3-2 overtime win in Game 1 (Prince George, BC), a 4-1 WHL victory in Game 2 (Edmonton, AB) and a 4-3 victory in Game 3 (North Bay, ON).
- The CIBC Canada Russia Series enters Game 4 featuring a 5-4 point score for just the fourth time in the event’s 14-year history. Russia led 5-4 in 2011 before the CHL came back to win the series with wins in two of the final three games. The CHL won in both of the other occasions, which occurred in 2004 and 2007.
- The CIBC Canada Russia Series comes to Hamilton for the first time as the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs host their first ever CHL event.
SERIES NOTES
NINE REINFORCEMENTS FOR OHL: Nine players join Team OHL tonight including goaltender Michael McNiven (Owen Sound Attack), defencemen Jacob Friend (Owen Sound Attack), Garrett McFadden (Guelph Storm), Victor Mete (London Knights), Markus Phillips (Owen Sound Attack) and Jordan Sambrook (Erie Otters) as well as forwards Boris Katchouk (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), Graham Knott (Windsor Spitfires) and Taylor Raddysh (Erie Otters).
LIGHTNING WELL-REPRESENTED: The Tampa Bay Lightning are well-represented in the OHL ranks, with a total of five prospects suiting up in the CIBC Canada Russia Series including Mitchell Stephens, Matt Spencer, Taylor Raddysh, Boris Katchouk and Anthony Cirelli. Adding Team WHL goaltender Connor Ingram and Team QMJHL forward Mathieu Joseph gives the Lightning a total of seven prospects competing in the series.
CHL FACEOFF DOMINANCE: The CHL has dominated in the faceoff circle through the first three games of the CIBC Canada Russia Series, going 117/188 (62.2%).
SHOOTING GALLERY: Team OHL outshot Russia 32-25 in Thursday’s 4-3 loss, marking the 10th straight game that the OHL has had the upper hand in the shooting column dating back to November 14, 2011.
RUSSIAN OHL PLAYERS GET THE NIGHT OFF: Following a busy weekend around the OHL, Russian head coach Valery Bragin has decided to ice a roster consisting entirely of players currently playing in Russia for tonight’s game in Hamilton. Mikhail Sergachev, Nikita Korostelev, Dmitry Sokolov and Artur Tyanulin will not be in the lineup.
