GAME NOTES
QUICK HITS
- The CHL carries a 7-5 series lead in points into Game 5 tonight following a 3-2 overtime win in Game 1 (Prince George, BC), a 4-1 WHL victory in Game 2 (Edmonton, AB) a 4-3 OHL victory in Game 3 (North Bay, ON) and a 5-2 OHL win last night in Hamilton, ON.
- The CHL has an opportunity to claim back-to-back series victories for the first time since 2008 and 2009. A regulation victory for Team QMJHL tonight would clinch the series.
- The CIBC Canada Russia Series returns to Chicoutimi, QC for the first time since 2007. Russia won that game 6-4 behind two goals and an assist from Mikhail Milekhin. Current day Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand had a goal for Team QMJHL in the loss.
SERIES NOTES
DUBOIS WEARS THE ‘C’: Team QMJHL announced its leadership group prior to tonight’s game, appointing Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Pierre-Luc Dubois (Cape Breton Screaming Eagles) as captain while Thomas Chabot (Saint John Sea Dogs), Julien Gauthier (Val-d’Or Foreurs) and Nicolas Roy (Chicoutimi Saguenéens) will serve as assistants.
FIGHT TO THE FINISH: Team QMJHL has played to an all-time record of 14-9-3 against Russia, including a mark of 6-3-1 over the past five years. This marks the third straight year that the QMJHL has finished the CIBC Canada Russia Series on home ice after opening it in the first 11 years of the event.
OFFENCE FROM THE DEFENCE: Four QMJHL defencemen have recorded at least a point-per-game this season, including Samuel Girard (Shawinigan Cataractes), Simon Bourque (Rimouski Oceanic), Frederic Allard (Chicoutimi Sagueneens) and Thomas Chabot (Saint John Sea Dogs).
HUSKIES WELL-REPRESENTED: A total of five members of the 2016 President Cup Champion Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will represent Team QMJHL, including Jean-Christophe Beaudin, Gabriel Fontaine, Alexandre Fortin, Philippe Myers and Jeremy Lauzon.
RUSSIA ADDS TWO: After four games in the past eight days, Russia will receive reinforcements tonight as Gatineau Olympiques forwards Vitalii Abramov and Yakov Trenin slot into the lineup for the remainder of the series.
