QUICK HITS

• The CHL Canada Russia Series returns to Halifax for the first time since 2003 when Russia claimed their first ever victory in the history of the event. Goaltender Konstantin Barulin made 51 saves in a 3-2 decision.
• Tonight’s Game 6 marks the first time in six years that the event hasn’t come down to being decided in the final game. Team OHL clinched the series title with a Game 4 victory on Monday in Windsor.

 

QMJHL NOTES

DUCHARME, FORTIER IN FRONT OF HOME CROWD: Halifax Mooseheads head coach Dominique Ducharme and draft eligible winger Maxime Fortier will represent the QMJHL in front of their home crowd tonight. After winning the MasterCard Memorial Cup in 2013, the Mooseheads have graduated several high-end players to the NHL including Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), Jonathan Drouin (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Nikolaj Ehlers (Winnipeg Jets).

EIGHT RETURNEES: Team QMJHL features a total of eight players on the roster from the 2014 CHL Canada Russia Series. Olivier LeBlanc, Francis Perron, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Anthony Richard, Nicolas Meloche, Guillaume Brisebois, Nicolas Roy and Anthony Beauvillier are all back for another shot against Russia.

GOALTENDING WATCH: After Samuel Montembeault allowed three goals on 20 shots on Tuesday, Calgary Flames prospect Mason McDonald gets the call tonight. Both Montembeault and McDonald attended Canada’s Summer Development Camp in August along with Team OHL goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood.

 

RUSSIA NOTES

TRUSHKOV IN A GROOVE: Goaltender Alexander Trushkov has turned aside 67 of 71 shots over the last two games, helping his club claim victory on Tuesday in Rouyn-Noranda. Both he and goaltending partner Maxim Tretiak have recorded identical .902 save percentages so far in the series.

GREAT LATE: After losing seven consecutive Game 6 meetings in the CHL Canada Russia Series from 2003-09, Russia has claimed four of the last five meetings against the CHL in the final game of the series.
